squares and fountains
At First Sight
A quiet walk in the historic center allows us to admire among the most fascinating and historic places in Rome. The tour starts from Piazza Navona, whose name comes from "Ludis agonalis" (that is to say athletic competitions) and which preserves the remains underground of the ancient stadium of Domitian of the first century AD.
In the middle of the square the Baroque sculptor Gianlorenzo Bernini built the famous Baroque Fountain of the Four Rivers, right in front of Saint Ines Basilica, renovated by his rival Francesco Borromini. Many other works in the capital tell about the mythical challenge between the two artists.
Passing in front of the Senate Palace, we continue the visit with the Pantheon, the best preserved Roman temple of the second century A.D. , characterized by the largest dome in Rome.
During the tour we pass in front of the Chamber of Parliament and Palazzo Chigi, official seat of the Prime Minister, to get to the famous Trevi Fountain where, in accordance with the ancient tradition, it is possible to throw a coin to express the desire to return to Rome.
The tour ends in the Spanish Steps, district of the fashion and shopping centre, with the famous Trinita dei Monti staircase and the legendary Barcaccia fountain.
