The so-called Castelli Romani are villages around Rome, at the foot of the Alban Hills, in the territory corresponding to Lazio Antico.
The area of the castles occupies a fertile volcanic area that has allowed since ancient times a flourishing agriculture and viticulture. The abundance of springs, the richness of greenery, the particularly mild climate and the proximity to Rome have since ancient times brought the search for accommodation by rich patricians and emperors, and then important families of the Renaissance. Among the most important families who ruled in the castles are the Orsini and the Colonna.
Leaving Rome, the first stop of the minivan tour is Castelgandolfo, a charming town that stands above the volcanic lake of Albano and which houses the palace that until recently was the summer residence of the Popes and today is a museum tor the will of Pope Francis.

The tour continues through various villages all connected by a ring road, including Marino famous for the fountain from which the wine come out in special occasions and Genzano known for the flower festival in springtime. Stop in Grottaferrata to admire the Saint Nilo Abbey dated 1004 and Frascati, rebuilt after the bombings during the Second World War, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of the whole city of Rome .
